GRNMA expresses disappointment over postponed meeting with parliament

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association has set a deadline for the government to implement its conditions of service by July 2025.

This comes after a meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, scheduled on June 26, 2025, to continue discussions regarding their demands was postponed.

A letter from the committee dated June 25 announced that the meeting would be rescheduled due to some stakeholders being unavailable.

The new date for the meeting has been set for July 10, 2025, a decision that has been met with dissatisfaction from the Association.

It would be recalled that the Association suspended its strike following a meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health.

During a press conference on June 26, 2025, the Association made it clear that the deadline they established is non-negotiable, especially after the Parliamentary Select Committee failed to meet as planned.

The Association stated that they would reconsider their next steps if there are further delays in implementing the agreed-upon conditions of service.

“The strike was suspended in good faith, and we expect nothing less than a reciprocity of the same. The rescheduling of the meeting is in bad faith since it may further delay the implementation of the agreed-upon items. We have, however, decided to give the committee the benefit of hindsight and still trust their engagement with the Ministry of Finance and health will be productive.

“We demand the implementation of their conditions for the four agreed items not later than July 2025. This is non-negotiable,” they added.
