I WAS DETAINED UNLAWFULLY FOR 7 DAYS BY EOCO – AG’s WITNESS IN ADU BOAHENE TELLS COURT

Frank Anane Dekpey, a key prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of former Signals Bureau Chief, Kwabena Adu Boahen, has revealed to the High Court in Accra that he was detained for nearly a week without any official explanation.

Testifying on Friday, July 18, 2025, Mr. Dekpey told the court that he was invited by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to assist in investigations related to the case, only to be held in custody for six to seven days.

According to him, he was never informed of any specific charges or suspicions against him.

Dekpey, who previously worked as a personal driver to Adu Boahen, testified that he frequently delivered cash to his former boss.

Led by Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem Sai, the witness recounted that he was often instructed by Mildred Donkor, the third accused in the case, to cash cheques from Stanbic and UMB banks and deliver the money to Mr. Boahen. He clarified that the cheques were always sealed in envelopes and handed directly to bank tellers, so he was never aware of the amounts involved.

Under cross-examination by defence lawyer Atta Akyea, Mr. Dekpey was questioned about the circumstances surrounding his week-long detention and why he was still testifying for the prosecution after such treatment.

In response, Dekpey maintained that EOCO had assured him he was only being invited to assist in the investigation because his name, ID card, and signature appeared on several transaction documents.

The court has adjourned the case to Friday, July 25, 2025, to allow for the continuation of cross-examination.
