A total of 461,640 final-year Senior High School(SHS) students will be participating in this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.
They consist of 207,381 males and 254,259 females. This year marks an increase of 1,029 candidates compared to last year’s total of 460,611.
The examination kicked off today, with project work in various disciplines, including Basketry, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Jewellery, and Leatherworks scheduled to take place between today, August 4 and Friday, August 22, 2025.
The 2025 cohort will be the fourth group of final-year students to take the Ghana Only Version of WASSCE, as the other member countries of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia, have returned to their May/June examination schedule.
Ghana’s current calendar was adapted due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
While the other countries have streamlined their academic calendars to align with the May/June exams, Ghana continues to follow its updated schedule.
