Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III dies at 98

The Asante Kingdom has been plunged into mourning following the death of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the revered Queen Mother and second most powerful figure in Asanteman.
Her passing was formally communicated to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, by the Oyoko Family during an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council on Monday, August 11, 2025.
Born Nana Ama Konadu, she was the 14th Asantehemaa and the biological sister of the current Asantehene.
She ascended to the sacred stool 8 years ago after the passing of her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who served as the Asantehemaa before her.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III was widely respected for her wisdom, strength, and unwavering commitment to Asante traditions.
As a trusted advisor to the Asantehene, she played a pivotal role in upholding the cultural heritage of the Kingdom, offering guidance that reinforced unity and continuity in Asanteman.
Her presence at the Manhyia Palace symbolised not only royal authority but also peace, stability, and maternal leadership deeply valued by both the royal family and the people.
While official details surrounding her death remain limited, family sources confirm that she passed away in the early hours of August 7, 2025.
In keeping with royal custom, the Manhyia Palace is expected to make a formal public announcement and release funeral arrangements after all required traditional rites and protocols have been observed.
